About Mentor

Prof. Harsh Mahaseth is an Associate Professor at Jindal Global Law School, Associate Director of the Nehginpao Kipgen Center for Southeast Asian Studies, and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution, O.P. Jindal Global University, India. He is a visiting faculty at NALSAR University of Law. He has previously served as the Assistant Dean at O.P. Jindal Global University and has taught as a visiting faculty at Mahindra University.

Recognized among the Top-Cited International Law Scholars in India by the Indian Blog of International Law, Prof. Mahaseth is noted alongside leading legal luminaries in the country. He specializes in Public International Law, with a particular focus on Asian Legal Studies across South and Southeast Asia.

Prof. Mahaseth holds an LL.M. in Asian Legal Studies from the National University of Singapore and a B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) from NALSAR University of Law, India. He further earned a Diploma in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the Indian Institute of Governance & Leadership, as well as a Diploma in Freelance and Feature Writing from the London School of Journalism.

A prolific scholar, Prof. Mahaseth has authored over 60 peer-reviewed international journal articles and more than 175 publications in leading international newspapers, magazines, and academic blogs. His contributions have been recognized through multiple honours, including the Award for Research Excellence, the Best Research Scholar Award, and the Emerging Scholar Award.

He has designed and taught courses and workshops at universities across Asia, introducing innovative subjects such as “Asian Regional Organizations and Their Interplay with the Law”, “ASEAN Law, Policy, and Governance”, “The Art of Legal Writing”, and specialized editorial and career-focused workshops. He also serves on the editorial committees of several academic journals and blogs.

About the Course:

The 6-Week Certificate Course on Legal Research and Writing with AI, organized by Lawful Legal, is a thoughtfully designed online program tailored for law students, legal professionals, and researchers aiming to enhance their skills in legal research and writing while integrating modern AI tools into their work.

Course Structure:

Module 1: Introduction to Legal Research & Writing

• Understanding the importance and scope of legal research.

• Types of research: Doctrinal vs. Empirical.

• Legal writing models: IRAC, CRAC, CREAC.

• Ethics in research and plagiarism prevention.

Practical Tasks:

• Analyze a legal article for structure and content.

• Summarize a recent Supreme Court/High Court judgment using the IRAC model.

Module 2: Research Methodology and Case Law Analysis

• Identifying primary & secondary sources.

• Techniques for reading judgments and extracting ratio decidendi.

• Navigating legal databases like SCC Online, Manupatra, Indian Kanoon.

Practical Tasks:

• Prepare briefs on 3 judgments from a chosen topic.

• Differentiate between obiter dicta and ratio decidendi.

Module 3: AI Tools in Legal Research

• Introduction to tools such as ChatGPT, Casetext, Lexis+, Westlaw Edge.

• Exploring how AI is revolutionizing legal research and writing.

• Using AI for summarization, drafting, and citation checking.

Practical Tasks:

• Live demonstration on generating legal memos using ChatGPT.

• Compare case laws using AI tools and generate summaries.

Module 4: Legal Writing Techniques and Drafting

• Crafting research papers, memos, articles, and case comments.

• Focusing on clarity, tone, and proper citation.

• Understanding formatting styles: Bluebook, OSCOLA, ILI.

Practical Tasks:

• Draft a 1000-word legal article using Bluebook citation.

• Peer review and feedback session on drafts.

Module 5: Legal Research Reports and Policy Briefs

• Writing effective legal research reports and policy papers.

• Drafting legal opinions.

• Using data and references efficiently.

Practical Tasks:

• Draft a mini legal opinion with AI assistance.

• Prepare a 2-page policy brief on a chosen legal reform topic.

Module 6: Final Assessment & Capstone Project

• Select a legal issue (or receive one from the mentor).

• Conduct doctrinal or empirical research.

• Submit a 1500-word research paper utilizing AI tools.

• Present the findings in a live session.

Duration & Class Timings

The course begins on 17th Jan 2026 and will go on for 6-week , featuring engaging live classes held  four times a week.

Days: Saturday & Sunday (weekend classes only)

Timings: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM (Evening Sessions)
