With an alarming backlog of over 5 crores cases and average disposal periods extending over five years, the judicial system is in dire need of technological interventions to improve its efficiency and accessibility. Technologically advanced solutions provide revolutionary capabilities in legal research, case handling, and judicial decision-making. With this revolution in technology comes highly complicated constitutional challenges related to transparency of algorithms, intrinsic bias within machine learning, and invasion of data privacy. This article analyzes the varied role of AI in India’s judicial system against the backdrop of constitutional guarantees and basic rights. By combining empirical evidence, judgments, and comparative global insights, the article constructs a rich framework for responsible AI adoption that balances technological innovation with India’s constitutional values and suggests concrete legislative and policy recommendations for sustainable implementation.
