IDEOLOGICAL DIVERSITY AND VOTING BEHAVIOUR  IN INDIA

Abstract:

Idea is an key to creativity and led to massive change. It has intensified impact in the political career especially with election of candidates. There are several ideologies emerging in the country in regard to the political parties which contribute to the voting. As voting is an irreplaceable act in a democratic country ideology of political parties pay a lot. Though there are several lack in these ideology , it will impact a great in society. This study will dwell into the ideological diversities and factors contributing to vote in India.

Introduction:

Political parties are entities who play an sociological role in repairing the society. These have ultimate motto of participating in election and winning the constituencies. In a democratic country like India, adult suffrage is the method used to elect the representatives. ideology shapes the voting of people and tend to create a spate fan base to it. Every election won by a party represent its wide spread acceptances of its ideology. These contribute a lot to voting.

Ideological diversity in India:

The major 3 ideologies play crucial role in Indian politics were RIGHT WING , LEFT WING and CENTRIST VIEW.  Right wing were the group focusing on social orders , morals & ethics tend to be more conservative one. The real time example for right wing is Barathiya Janata Party (BJP). They have the ultimate motto of bringing back the “ Rama Rajya” . The right wing ideology originated in French revolution(1789 to 1799) Which supported monarchist old regime.  The right wing identify themselves with conservative and nationalist elements. They dwell upon the traditional values and individual liberty.  They emphasis strong severity with strong defense which were supported by law and order. The extreme version lies on religion or language or caste based ideology in this right wing. The parties like AIMIM, Shiv Shena were some of them. They can be categorized as economically right and socially right in which they tend to form rules from the culture and norms in society.

Left wing were the exact opposite of right wing which focus on the modern , liberal and equality based values. The real time example of  left wing is Communist Parties. Their motto will have the principles of communism as equal ownership of property , equality, fair play just like an ideal world. They believe the government should be strong in a society. It is emerged from the anti-monarchial concept.

Centrist view is the one who is in between the right and left wing and they possess the principles of both sects as per the changing society. The real time example of  centrist were Indian National Congress (INC). 

Factors contributing voting in India :

Voting is an ultimate key of electing the personalities, who will rule over nation by official posting for the people, As India is a democracy , it choose adult suffrage as an weapon to attack and defend themselves. Any personality or party will play their part to get elected. The factors contributing voting were,

1. Charisma – Charisma of candidate score more in an election. The candidate should posses basic qualification and good name towards the people. Some leaders became the brand of their party because of their charisma and popularity among people. In the 1971 election “ Garibi Hatao “ slogan gives indira Gandhi’s victory. As cinema has great impact in India , cinema starts who participate in election and who has place in the hearts of people can easily win the election. The most famous political leaders who become chief minister of tamilnadu were M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalaitha. Other celebrities such as Pawan Kalyan who is currently serving as Deputy Chief Minister of Telengana, Hema Malini who is MP of Mathura constituency, Balakrishna Nandamuri is an MP of Telugu Desam Party etc.. these candidates have a separate fan base apart from cinema.

2.Religion – As India has diverse of religion it play a crucial role in voting. The parties who advocate for a religion and do the needs regarding that will get the religion’s vote. Sometimes the religional feeling may turn around riot for the purpose to separate vote count

3.Caste – Caste  is being an inseparable thing from the Indian society. Caste will determine the winning candidate of the constituency till the ancient times. Most of the political parties will select the candidate as per the majority caste in a constituency.

4.Language – Language plays a barrier role against the national parties in regard to the local parties. In tamilnadu the regional parties like AIADMK, DMK, NTK get a stance of defense as “people of Tamil should rule Tamil”. It sometimes create hatered against the national parties and split the vote to be casted

5.Money – Bribe to people will change the political game. There is a myth revolves that who give more money will get more votes. Sometimes it proved true. 

6.Election campaign- By having an attractive campaign method candidates gain their vote. By having cinema stars to campaign political parties can gain vote. In India cinema has great impact in the society and worshiped as equal to god. By using the cinema craze in campaign candidate can win the votes.

7. Election Manifesto- among  the literates 70% of people will vote by the fascinable mentioning’s in the manifesto. In the recent 2024 election, the INC cover more vote by their freebies policies. 

CONCLUSION:

Though there are several factors contributing to voting, ideology of a political party paves way for new members to join the party. The political party should have an considerable number of party members. Ideology is an ultimate key to attract members to join political parties. Ideology not only lay the foundation of a political party but also reach the voters. It psychologically engage with the people’s mentality of living and emotions. Certain parties have ideology of religion which will attract religionist person. Some parties will have liberal ideals which will attract  the modern minded people. Youngsters will be attracted by charismatic leaders and their speech which reflect the political ideology. According to drifting changes in the society the ideologies too changing and  voters choose their candidate who coincide with them. Certain ideology covers majority of age groups beyond generational gaps. These ideology not only impact the party members but also spreads over the country if they win.
